Dr David Brown completed his PhD at the University of Queensland in 2009 with his study into the Queensland Italian population between the years 1910 and 1945 and the impact of the Italian Fascist party's politics on this migrant community. He has published several articles focusing on Italian fascism and how it impacted on the Australian Italian population. In 2010 his thesis was awarded the prestigious Altreitalia thesis prize for the best PhD thesis on aspects of Italian migration written outside of an Italian institution. Since 2009 he has worked at the Sixth Form College Farnborough and has been Curriculum Manager of Modern History since September 2015. This is one of the biggest A Level departments in the country with 220 students studying Modern History. Dr David Brown has co-authored the recent Unit 1 and 2 A level Edexcel text book on Nationalism, Dictatorship and Democracy in the 20th Century, specifically writing the section on Italian Fascist History 1911-1946. He has a further history degree, majoring in Chinese History. He is also currently authoring the Edexcel Unit 3 textbook on Germany between 1871 and 1990. He has worked closely with educational and academic experts. In 2011 he was a contributor to the History Virtual Academy Project, a major research project on internet based learning for A level History students run by Dr Arthur Chapman, a leading academic at the Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment at the UCL Institute of Education. Dr David Brown has also presented workshops on teaching practice at the Schools History Project Conference in 2014 and at the University of Sussex in 2015. In 2012 he was involved in discussions with Professor Duggan, Dr Giuliana Pieri of Royal Holloway and Professor Stephen Gundle of the University of Warwick, along with the Historical Association, on how to develop resources for the teaching of Italian fascist history both at GCSE and A level. Currently Dr David Brown is part of the proposal team directed by Professor Duggan that is planning one of the largest Historical studies into Italian Fascism ever conducted. He is also a member of the Australian 'ndrangheta research group at UCL organised by Professor John Dickie that focuses on the study of Italian organised crime in Australia.
