How did fascist economic policies develop in the 1930s and how does it help to understand the nature of the fascist regime? We examine the three key policies known collectively as the Battles - the Battle for Births, the Battle for Grain and the Battle for Land. Mussolini liked to use words like 'battle' for propaganda purposes and to sound dynamic and supportive of the people. But how successful were they really?
