What ideas did they have about the causes of disease in Medieval England? What were the supernatural explanations and what were the rational explanations of disease. The supernatural and religious explanations of the causes of disease:- punishment from God, A test of faith, a curse (witchcraft), an astrological anomaly or the flaws of an individual character. The rational explanations of disease;- The balance of the 4 humours, the beliefs of Hippocrates and Galen revisited. The understanding of miasma and how it informed understanding of diseases.
