It also led to the emergence of Napoleon first as a dictator then as an Emperor. Not only France but much of Europe was changed by his introduction of key elements of the revolution and creating new more unified states. The history of warfare was changed by his stunning campaigns. The period from 1789 saw violent, sometimes very shocking and dramatic events and the rise of larger than life historical figures.
