Theme: Family and relationships
in Jane Eyre
How important is the concept of family in the novel? In this tutorial we look at the presentation of orphans – Jane/Helen and their guardians’ response to them. We examine the different family models- the Reeds and the Rivers – and Jane’s place in them, especially through her discovered cousin status with the Rivers. Finally we discuss Wards, for example Adele, as a contrast and the concept of responsibility.Tutors:
