Within this tutorial we see the impact of the discovery of fire and light and compare the warmth and knowledge versus danger and burning. We are introduced to the Monster’s hosts, the Delacy family and how he learns language and to dislike his own body. It also explores the theme of Solitude. Finally, the Monster becomes aware of nature’s power. He is the reverse of Victor, seeking warm spring, rather than cold Alps. We think about this in relation to eventual ending in the Arctic north.
