What is Bayonet Charge by Ted Hughes all about? How does the poet use language and structure to present their ideas and feelings about power / conflict? Ted Hughes uses the context of World War One to emphasise conflict, including an internal conflist a soldier has to overcome. The poem uses both language and structure to convey this. Suitable comparisons within the cluster include Kamikaze’, ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’ or the feelings of the mother in ‘Poppies’.
