What is “The Gothic”
What is “the gothic”? This podcast examines the origins and history of the word and its significance to aesthetic movements in architecture, art, and literature, the notions of high/pop culture and how it relates to Romanticism. Furthermore, it looks at the historicist versus thematic conceptions of “the gothic”, pre-eighteenth century gothic impulses and post-eighteenth century influences, especially in 20th and 21st century pop culture, including crime fiction, drama and horror.
